Kent & East Sussex Railway
Take a step back in time with a visit to the annual 1940’s Weekend at the Kent & East Sussex Railway on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May 2017. Admission includes unlimited train travel on the day of your visit. On arrival at Tenterden collect your free identity card before immersing yourself in the nostalgic 40’s atmosphere created by the re-enactors, live performers and authentic 1940’s displays.
On both days there will be an exciting Spitfire flying display* at Tenterden station. (subject to operating conditions).
Visiting locomotive ‘Foxcote Manor’ will be one of the steam locomotives taking passengers between Tenterden and Bodiam stations with services leaving every 45 minutes.
Re-enactors, vintage civilian and military vehicles add to the atmosphere and 1940’s singers will be performing throughout the weekend. Watch out for ‘Viv the Spiv’ with his black market goods.

Experience the forties lifestyle as the Railway turns back the clock to wartime Britain. Enjoy flying displays by iconic wartime planes – the Hurricane and Spitfire from the Biggin Hill Heritage Hanger, singing by Lady Ella, a polished professional, delivering the sound of the forties with sophistication and a splash of fun, and dancing from the foot-tapping Cinque Ports Lindy Hoppers. Vehicles and authentic costumes from the period will be on view, and a 1940s village scene with wartime cookery demonstrations. Steam trains run all weekend, and your train ticket gains entry to the event and includes unlimited train travel.

On the 15 and 16 May visitors to the Kent & East Sussex Railway can re-live the forties lifestyle. At Tenterden Station visitors can see special performances by Fiona Harrison, Britain’s finest professional 1940’s singer. Fiona will be performing three shows a day, in full authentic costume, featuring popular 1940’s tunes.
The Cinque Ports Lindy Hoppers will also be getting visitors in the swing of things with exciting performances throughout the weekend.
Civilian and military vehicles will be on display. Watch out for Viv the Spiv and other re-enactors. A full steam train service operates both days.
